I am recently engaged and feel ready to start planning the wedding. However, going into the bookstore to find a book sounds completely daunting! If anyone has any suggestions, or books to avoid, I’d appreciate it! Thank you!

I suggest before you actually take the plunge is to read Monica Mendez Leahy’s "1001 Questions To Ask Before You Get Married". Then the two of you should have an open forum about it. That way you two won’t have any surprises when you’re actually already in the stage of "married life."

Books I am using …after buying a whole lot of pretty books that proved useless…these are the ones that I found most helpful:
Jo Gartin’s weddings by Jo Gartin
The modern bride survival guide published by modern bride magazine

I used Weddings for Dummies. I really liked that it covered just about EVERY aspect of the wedding from picking the date to how to write thank you notes and everything in between and more. It did a fairly good job of giving examples and ideas. What I DID NOT like was that I found it unrealistic for anyone on a budget. Methinks the authors have worked in the wedding biz a little too long. If you think that $25,000 dollars is a perfectly reasonable amount to spend on one day, then this is the perfect book for you. If you think that’s rediculous, or even just a little high, then this is still a good book, just take it with a grain of salt and do your own price-research. It’s still a great how-to and checklist, as it were.

Ok, i didnt use any books… i brought a magazine which had a wedding guide on it to help you stay focused. I also registered on 2 websites i think they are both English, but you get the idea… http://www.youandyourwedding.co.uk and http://www.confetti.co.uk when you register you get table planning software, budget software and a to list.. you also get emails from you and your wedding monthly giving you a guide to what you need to do next. I found these helpful.

You will get lots of help from family / friends too, the amount of times my family have said to me - have you done this and ill be like OOPS not yet haha.

Have fun, dont get stressed and go with the flow - enjoy the wedding planning… :)

(ps- we made our own save the date cards, invitations and order of service… we brought the fancy bits off eBay and it worked out alot cheaper and personal to do it our selves)

    Have fun and congrats!!!

I used The Knot Wedding Planning book, it was great and it wasn’t too huge, so I could take it to places when I met with vendors. It also has a checklist which really came in handy.

The knot is also a really great website that can help you with just about everything you need to know.

I use the Knot Book Of Wedding Lists. I got it at Hobby Lobby, but your local book store should have it, or you can probably order it through theknot.com.
