My best friend is getting married and I purchased her one book called The Wedding book. She wants to find websites or books on the time line to do everything like send out save-the-date, invitations, looking for place, etc. Thank you
I love www.weddingwire.com it’s a great wedding planning site. You can even seat your guests at the reception!
My roommate’s just got engaged and they’re planning the wedding for October. They both want a simple wedding without all of the fancy stuff most people go for. She’s really bad at organizing and is worried she’ll forget something important in the midst of everything.
Any really simple, checklist type book I could give her as an engagement present?

I really hate to recommend the site because it’s full of bridezillas and their enablers, but theknot.com has a decent pre-Wedding checklist of things that you might want or need to do. It’s free to use and not a book, but once I sorted out the "force bridesmaids to purchase ugly dresses" steps, it was useful enough.
The short list, especially for a short engagement is: self, partner, license, someone able to perform the ceremony, and witnesses. Everything else is just so much fairy dust.
I would like one that is very thorough, and that I can write in. I also want it to look nice so that I can keep it as a keepsake.
Just a suggestion, but here is a book you can print, punch and insert into a binder of your choice.
You don’t have to print the pages you don’t want, can add other pages, and truly customize it how you want. There is a ton of helpful information on this website.

I am opening up a wedding planning business and thought I would get some of your ideas on a good slogan for the business. The name is Visions Wedding & Event Boutique. My idea is to cater to a select number of brides to give them that individual attention they deserve, rather than trying to book a thousand brides and not having that one on one with them. Any suggestions??
First determine your unique or competitive advantage or unique selling proposition (USP), then craft a slogan or tag line. Your slogan will be a short or condensed version or your usp.
Your Unique Selling Proposition answers the question, “Why should I buy from you now, instead of from someone else?”. It defines who and what you are. It is the reason you are in business.
Why should prospects do business with you? How are they greater advantaged in doing business with you vs. any of your competitors?
Your unique advantages tell the marketplace what you offer that others don’t. It’s about being different from everyone else and clearly and succinctly communicating what you do for your customers. It’s what they get that makes you the decisive choice over and above all other options.
Most business owners think a USP is a catchy slogan. If you can create one that’s catchy that’s great, but you need to be sure the message is clear. Other businesses think the USP is about who they are or what they do. The truth is your USP is about what you do for the customer. A good USP will have your prospect saying, “Oh really? Tell me more!”
Case in point, I’m engaged and planning a wedding but never wanted to get married before now. So for most girls, they already know how they’ve wanted their wedding, already knew the style of dress and all of that, I didn’t and still working through it. Is there a book or magazine that covers this sort of thing.
All of them. Any decent bridal magazine or "How to plan a wedding" book will have essentially all of the information and checklists you need in them. Go to any local bookstore, they will have what you need.
And not all women dream about their weddings starting at age 5.
Weddings didn’t cross my mind AT ALL until I got engaged, same story as you.
I am a magazine junkie an ended up buying the "common" bridal magazines for a few months to get the ball rolling. In the end, while certainly not necessary, it did help me come up with some ideas. The features that showed "real weddings" were the most fun for me. You can also check out websites like The Knot.com and frugalbride, offbeatbride, etc. depending on your personal needs.
Here are some of the magazines I bought:
-Brides
-Modern Bride
-Canadian Bride
-Elegant Bride
-Weddingbells (Canadian magazine)
-Martha Stewart Weddings
-Luxe Weddings
Although I wasn’t initially in love with the idea of planning a wedding, everything turned out really nice in the end!
Good luck and have fun!
ok so i got engaged jan 31st and the wedding isn’t till aug 25 2012 so i know i have plenty of time but i am one that likes everything to be just about done way before hand. i am wondering where is a good place to get wedding ideas, any Wedding planning books recommended, colors for an august wedding, what types of gifts to give, food ideas. were not going to have much money because were paying for it ourselves and were a young couple with a 2 year old right now. that’s the other reason why im starting early please help, i am open for any ideas.
One of the best places to go is "The Knot" www.theknot.com, that is the site that my wife and I used, and it sorta helped putting things into perspective.
Starting early is an awesome idea by the way. It is so much easier to space things out over a large period of time.
In the meantime, here is what I would do…
Make a list of the things that ARE and ARE NOT important to you. Seriously, you can cut thousands of dollars from your wedding budget by eliminating things that are not essential to you.
For example, my wife and I saved A LOAD of money on our wedding because we decided not to get married in a church, and just used on venue for the ceremony and reception. By the way, our ceremony was beautiful and nobody had anything but positive things to say about it. (It’s also super convenient). We also eliminated the wedding party, as the occasion was about us not our friends and family. So seriously, go take a look at the checklist they have on TheKnot.com, and just start taking out anything that isn’t essential.
Once you have a list of the things that are essential, start looking for things that you can do yourself. (there are lots of DIY Wedding sites with advice and ideas) Again, we saved a ton of money doing our own save the dates and invitations. And since we started so far in advance, we had plenty of time to find to get the most out of our money. Seriously, we paid next to nothing on our save the dates and they’re seriously the coolest ones anybody has ever seen.
In the end, we ended up saving so much money by skipping stuff we didn’t need, that we were able to bring hire a company to bring a Photobooth to our wedding (which was pretty much the hit of the night!)
So you’re totally on the right track. The more time you have, the more fun the whole thing ends up being, and the less stressful it is. I’m a guy, and I had a BLAST working on planning our wedding. Having so much time on our hands, and our desire to do as much as possible ourselves made the planning process a joint effort.
Honestly, nearly a year later there isn’t a single thing I would change about our wedding. It was perfect, as it was the perfect representation of us.
Also, congratuations!
An increasing trend when planning for a wedding is the inclusion of small gifts and wedding favors, which can be taken home after the celebration. These gifts are often inexpensive, but the impact that they can leave on your wedding guests is significant enough that they should remember your wedding for quite some time. Although having wedding favors and small gifts available to guests is not necessarily a new concept, the popularity of these gifts has caused a surge in the number of wedding favors that are being given as well. These gifts can also increase the number of options available to wedding planners.
If you want to make sure that your wedding is memorable, it is important to make sure that the wedding gifts that you choose are something that your guests are going to enjoy. Here are some options that are available to you when trying to choose wedding favors and other small gifts. Each can impress your guests in its own way and can all but ensure that no one leaves your wedding reception without being awed by how professional and well planned your celebration was.
Soaps
Bath beads, bath salts, and soaps can be given as wedding favors that many of the people in attendance may simply love. Not only can the soaps and other bath supplies be packaged (and carved) decoratively, they also offer the additional benefit of being able to bring relaxation to the wedding guests. Scented heart soaps or personalized shower gels can really put a smile on a guestâ??s face. They may begin to realize that you thought enough about them to not only invite them to your wedding, but also to offer them something with a pleasing aroma.
Candles
Scented candles are an excellent gift to consider for your wedding guests. These candles provide a pleasing aroma, which is similar to the bath soaps. This can act as an aromatherapy solution that can make your guests feel relaxed and stress-free. A number of exquisitely carved or molded candles can be found as potential wedding reception gifts, letting you choose anything from a rose ball candle to a set of white votive candles to help set a relaxed mood. A number of scented candle options are also available, many of which feature pleasing aromatherapy scents that can help to melt away stress from your wedding guests.
Bookmarks
Many people would not think about bookmarks as wedding favors, but with the number of wedding-related designs possible, they can actually make quite a wonderful gift. What better way is there to help people remember how much they enjoyed your wedding than by giving them a reminder that is both pretty and functional? Many wedding bookmarks are made of quality materials and feature designs that can make them a much better option than the cheap or makeshift bookmarks that some people use. Even if the bookmarks do not see much use, the ease of storage and small size makes them ideal candidates for inclusion in memory books or photo albums.
Candies and Other Edibles
There are a number of candies, foods, and drink mixes that can be given as wedding favors, much to the delight of wedding guests. A number of these candies and food items feature personalization options, letting you do everything from add a monogram to personalized Hersheyâ??s Kisses. You can also have custom-labeled honey favors to give your guests some sweet honey that they can take home with them. Another option is to offer personalized tea bags, coffee servings, and hot cocoa mixes that have monograms or wedding details printed directly on the packages to serve as a tasty reminder of your wedding after the reception is over.
Cameras
One other popular and useful option when it comes to selecting wedding gifts that your guests will love is the disposable camera. Everyone wants to bring a camera to a wedding, but in many cases, the camera may accidentally be left behind or it may run out of either film or battery power before the night is over. By giving cameras as wedding favors, you can help to ensure that your guests can take picture of the celebration if they want to while providing them with something that can be functional outside of the wedding reception as well. Developing the film for the camera will cost the same as developing any other film, letting guests drop off the entire camera for photo lab technicians to open and develop the film contained inside.
Choosing the right wedding favor can be a challenge but there are many great options to choose. A few great gift ideas are soaps, candles, bookmarks, edible foods, and cameras. These are all great ways to help your guests remember the wedding while providing them with something that can be used afterwards.

I am planning a beach wedding in florida. I am planning on booking a destination package for the beach. Is there anything anyone who has done this before suggest or redoo if they could do it over again. I dont want to forget anything.
I am having a destination wedding in Vero Beach, Florida in February. We are doing it through a hotel and using their private beach for the ceremony. I would suggest going through a hotel because the wedding planner can help you plan since it is a destination wedding. I would suggest going down to Florida for a two week vacation and go to all the possible locations and vendors and book them all in person, then go back again a month before the wedding and meet with them all again. This is what I am doing and it is all working out perfectly!
