Lyrics

WEDDING SONG

Chorus:

Nikahun mubarakun
zawajun mubarakun
an-nikahu min-sunnati
ma qala ‘n-nabi huwa ’s-sahih
nikahun mubarakun
Today you become man and wife
fulfilling the sunna as way of life
Today you’ll find serenity
may your life be filled with sincerity
There is no happier day in your life
than the virtue of being man and wife
There’s joy without any end
Allah’s blessing on this day does descend…descend

Chorus
As you walk together, hand in hand
Allah has given you a companion and friend
To stand, and always be seen
as man and wife, fulfilling their din
From this day on, forever be true
cherish this life that’s destined for you
Live your life with kindness and care
remember, Allah will always be there…be there

Chorus
There is joy, there is happiness
in this union, let there always be bliss
Allah will bless your home with light
your heart with never-ending delight
Two worlds today have now become one
the road ahead is as bright as the sun
O Allah, keep this marriage so strong
in Your hands does their future belong…belong

Chorus

My fiance and I are in our 20’s and we will have guests of all ages at the reception. Any suggestions will be much appreciated!

Play older classics first and slowly work your way into the more youthful music. Everyone enjoys the classics and can sing and dance along to them, so it will help get people out on the floor, but as the older people leave earlier, this leaves the real party music for the younger crowd.

We just sent out save-the-dates for our wedding, and a few people have told us that they already know they can’t come due to vacations they have planned. Should we still send them invitations? I feel bad not sending invitations because I feel like they deserve to get them even if they can’t come, but by sending invitations I don’t want it to look like we’re asking for gifts or disregarding the fact that they told us they can’t make it. Any advice on what the proper etiquette is would be appreciated - thanks!

Proper ettiquette would be to send everyone who received a save the date card an invitation anyway. It’s considered proper so that people don’t think you sent an invitation just to fish for gifts. Even if they tell you they can’t come you should still send an invite just incase plans change, some relatives like to keep them, and that person knows you thought enough about them to like their presence.

"I, _______, take you, ________, for my lawful wife/husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, until death do us part."

I am adding this in a research paper and need information for my bibliography. So I need a book title, the page number where this is found and the author.

• Marriage Vows •

I (…), take you (…) to be my husband/wife.
I promise to be true to you
in good times and in bad,
in sickness and in health.
I will love you and honor you
all the days of my life.

Or

I (…), take you (…) for my lawful husband/wife,
to have and to hold,
from this day forward,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
until death do us part.

Or

In the name of God,
I (…) take you (…) to be my husband/wife,
to have and to hold
from this day forward,
for better, for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish,
until we are parted by death.
This is my solemn vow.

Notice there is nothing about ‘obeying.’

• Exchange of Rings •

(…), take this ring
as a sign of my love and fidelity.
In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.

The current book is the English translation of "Rite of Marriage," copyright © 1969 by the International Committee on English in the Liturgy, Inc. http://www.catholicweddinghelp.com/topics/text-rite-of-marriage-mass.htm

This is an English translation of the Latin original. I would think that the name of the original author of the vows has been lost in antiquity.

This article about the History of Marriage is good and has a lot of references: http://ldysinger.stjohnsem.edu/THM_544_Marriage/05_Hist_Devt/00a_start.htm

With love in Christ.

I need to go wedding dress shopping and i have a list of about 20 that i like. I dont want to go into the store with this list and have the ladies hate me. So ladies, now many did you try on? How many is too many?

Too many would be 60 and up, but even then its your wedding and you should find a dress that makes you happy in every which way. I think the best thing to do is look at all the dresses and find a common thing about them.. for example if they are all strapless with a mermaid silouette. That will help out a ton. I honestly don’t think that they will get angry considering you will pay for the dress if you find it and it’s their job. And who knows maybe the 4th dress you try on will be the winner. Oh and for my sister in laws wedding we went dress shopping for 2 days for her to find the dress. So thats nothing compared to 20. Good luck… and congrats!!

We live two hours south of the bakery featured on TLC’s "Cake Boss" and my fiance has her heart set on one of their specialty wedding cakes.

There’s this magical thing called Google! :)

My sister is getting married in two weeks and we need to plan her wedding…and fast! Please give me any ideas you might have on how to plan a simple yet elegant wedding. There are less than 100 people who will be attending and the place is already picked out. Please send me any checklists you might have.

Nothing is planned yet? Ok.
- Invitations if you haven’t already sent them, which you should have.
- Book someone to do cake
- Book a photographer
- Plan decorations, choose colors that you will use
- Find a caterer, or make your own food and plan the menu, or just have a dessert reception
- Find a florist, or you can get flowers from a supermarket, they usually have some on hand, but you can order them ahead of time…2 weeks might be enough.
- Apply for a marriage license
- Find a dress, it can take time to order it, and get it altered. do this now.
